Hybrid Model for Reopening Schools

Introduction

Since the start of the pandemic, West Hartford Public Schools has been committed to partnering with our parents and our community to get through this extraordinarily difficult time. As an educational institution, we believe that the education of our youth is the legacy that we give back to our future community. This document attempts to answer your questions and lay out a blueprint for the 2020-2021 school year. Many components of our plans have shifted in response to guidance from the CT State Department of Education (CSDE) and the Department of Public Health (DPH). This is an outline of our plans, with specifics, but it is important to remember we expect and are prepared for changes in response to changing conditions. We must be nimble and flexible in both our assumptions and our decisions, with the combined goals of keeping our children and community healthy while providing the education West Hartford is known for. This blueprint remains a living document.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) continues to recommend students to return to school , however we recognize that individual family circumstances will prevent some of our students from accessing in-person school. If your child will access their education through our Remote Learning Plan, please click here. If you are attending in-school, the most recent guidance from both the CSDE and the DPH points toward a hybrid re-opening plan. Under this plan, roughly half of our students will attend in-person while the remainder access remote (online) learning. Students will alternate between in-school and remote learning in one-week intervals. The district will coordinate with families in order to ensure siblings attend during the same weeks regardless of grade level. Specifics on our plan are outlined below.
