Jeffrey Wallowitz, a former fifth-grade teacher and curriculum specialist at Webster Hill Elementary School, has been named to succeed longtime Principal Barbara Peck, who is retiring at the end of this school year.
Three West Hartford teachers were named by Superintendent David P. Sklarz at the May 6th Board of Education meeting as finalists for the district's Teacher of the Year award.
On Saturday, May 2, 2008, 250 elementary school students participated in the Unified Elementary Day sports event, which was hosted at the Conard High School McKee Stadium.

Hall High School student Caroline Lukens previously qualified as a Regional Finalist in the Chemistry Olympiad, a tiered international chemistry competition sponsored by the American Chemical Society. Caroline has now qualified for the National Level of this prestigious competition.

The 38th annual observance of Earth Day brings a wealth of resources and activities for focusing on the environment.
Hall High School Theater Arts Department will present its spring production of the two-thousand year old play Metamorphoses beginning Wednesday April 23rd and ending Saturday, May 3rd.
The first parent forums on youth suicide awareness and prevention will be held on Wednesday, April 30th, for West Hartford middle school parents.

At the first level of the American Chemical Society’s International Chemistry Olympiad Competition at the University of Connecticut, Hall High School’s young chemists walked away with five of the top thirty spots as well as winning a team gold medal.

Liz Devine, Hall High School social studies teacher, has been announced as the recipient of the Secondary School Teacher of the Year award, given by the New England History Teachers Association.

Anthony Billard, art teacher at Hall High School, has been named by the Connecticut Art Education Association as the 2008 Secondary Art Educator of the Year.

The West Hartford Board of Education will be conducting an extensive search for candidates for the position of Superintendent of Schools, to replace Dr. David P. Sklarz, following his retirement in June 2009. Residents may provide  online comments and sign up for email notices on this website.

Juan Melian, of the Conard High School World Languages Department, has been selected as the Language Teacher of the Year by the Connecticut Council of Language Teachers.

The Bristow Middle School lottery for the upcoming 2008-09 school year will be held in January.  Applications for incoming sixth graders are due by January 4, 2008 and for incoming seventh and eighth graders by March 31, 2008.  There are only a small number of anticipated vacancies for grades seven and eight.  For incoming sixth graders, there will be a separate lottery for each elementary school. Seventy students from King Philip feeder schools and 70 students from Sedgwick feeder schools will be admitted.

Kathy Hardesty, a Quest teacher at the Smith School of Science, Math & Technology has received a Science and Math Improvement Grant from the Toshiba America Foundation for "Learning With Motion".

Lisa Nowak, Nursing Supervisor for West Hartford Public Schools, has distributed health information from the UConn Health Center Poison Control Center about carbon monoxide poisoning.  This was triggered by the death of several individuals as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning in the home.  The flyers are in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, and Haitian Creole.

Douglas H. MacGilpin, MD, Medical Advisor to the West Hartford Public Schools, recently sent the attached letter to parents updating the steps taken to prevent the spread of the Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) staph infection in our school facilities.  Read his letter here and click on [More] to check the links for more information:

West Hartford Public Schools was well represented at the 2007 Connecticut Educators Computer Association and Connecticut Association of School Librarians joint conference October 23rd.

The latest edition of Dialogue With Our Schools is now available on-line. 

The 2006-2007 school year in West Hartford was another excellent year for the Advanced Placement Program.  More exams were taken by more students than in previous years.
