HALL SCIENCE STUDENTS WIN BIG!
At the first level of the American Chemical Society’s International Chemistry Olympiad Competition at the University of Connecticut, Hall High School’s young chemists walked away with five of the top thirty spots as well as winning a team gold medal.
On Thursday, March 13, 2008, over 235 of the state’s best chemistry students from twenty-five towns participated in this academic competition. Only the top thirty placements are guaranteed a move up to the regional, and then possibly the national, level of competition, and Hall secured five of those.
There is a team competition in addition to the individual component. The school with the highest overall average for the first level of competition is awarded the first place gold metal. Hall’s team took first place, winning the Chemistry Olympiad Gold Medal in the team competition.
Congratulations to Hall’s Sam Boers, Caroline Lukens, Jeffery Phu, Ben Schneider and Cassie Trammel for their individual wins, and job well done also to the entire team for bringing home the gold, as well as teacher Joan Pease.
