West Hartford offers two intra-district magnet schools – Charter Oak Academy of Global Studies and Florence E. Smith School of Science, Math & Technology - for any West Hartford elementary student:
We are committed to providing choice, quality and innovative education. To that end, the West Hartford Public Schools is now accepting applications for our two intra-district elementary magnet schools: Charter Oak Academy of Global Studies and Florence E. Smith School of Science, Math & Technology. Both schools continue our tradition of excellence by participating in the same high standards and expectations of the elementary school curriculum. In addition, these schools offer extra opportunities for instruction and enrichment in their themed areas. At Charter Oak Academy, world cultures are integrated throughout the curriculum and students are challenged to think creatively and critically using strategies developed for gifted and talented education. At Smith, students are given an intensive exposure to an enriched science and mathematics curriculum with an emphasis on the use of technology and problem solving.
