PREVENT CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING

Lisa Nowak, Nursing Supervisor for West Hartford Public Schools, has distributed health information from the UConn Health Center Poison Control Center about carbon monoxide poisoning.  This was triggered by the death of several individuals as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning in the home.  The flyers are in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, and Haitian Creole.

Carbon monoxide is invisible. The colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas is a byproduct of burning organic fuels.  Early symptoms often mimic the flu; headache, nausea, unclear thinking, shortness of breath, weakness, and loss of muscle control.  If you suspect carbon monoxide poisoning:
Leave your home right away; call 911 or the Connecticut Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222); call the local fire department to test for carbon monoxide.
