Power Management

West Hartford Schools has just joined many others nationwide to help save energy, money, and protect the environment by letting idle computer monitors rest. Computer and Monitor Power Management software puts computers into a low power or “sleep” mode after being idle for a set amount of time. A simple touch of the mouse or keyboard “wakes” the unit within seconds. Based on the current price of electricity, the Environment Protection Agency calculates that for every 100 computers using Power Management, we can save over $4,000 annually in utility costs. The EPA also tells us that simply applying the sleep mode to a single computer monitor is equivalent to planting 2,000 square feet of trees, removing more than a week’s worth of emissions from an automobile, or conserving eight gallons of gas.
