Budget Electronic Suggestion Box
These are challenging times. Our 2009-10 budget provided us with a 0% increase in spending compared to the 2008-09 levels. I realize that the budget climate for 2010-11 will present new challenges. Together we can rise above those new challenges and craft a budget that supports our mission and beliefs and ensures a first class education for all of the children of West Hartford. The budget has to incorporate three perspectives: what our professionals need, what our parents want and what our community can afford.
In West Hartford we have some of the most talented minds, creative thinkers, successful leaders, people of good will, and good old common sense. Those creative ideas from the community helped us last year craft a budget that supported our core mission while limiting the budget increase to 0%. I look forward again to tapping those talents in the community as we develop the education budget for 2010-2011.
Already I have heard suggestions from the community regarding possible cost saving measures, ways to generate new revenue, and possible budget reductions. More than ever in these trying times, we must reach out to the community to offer suggestions or new ideas in the development of the education budget.
This site is designed to provide an easy way for any resident to offer their input in the development of the education budget. This is not a time to be divisive but a time to put our collective minds together in making constructive suggestions that will help to maintain a fiscally responsible budget and still be true to our core mission of providing a quality education for all of the children of West Hartford.
Because of the expected volume of suggestions, we will not be able to reply to each individual email. Please email your suggestions to budget@whps.org and thank you in advance for sharing your insights, expertise, and creative thinking.
