UMBRELLA COMMITTEE NEWSLETTERNovember/December 1999 Volume 2 During the past two months we have been very busy making the goals and objectives of the Umbrella Committee a reality by continuing to work on the activities and projects that were begun in September and October. EMPTY BOWLS has captured the attention and spirit of so many students and staff that everyone wants to be involved. Increasing awareness has been a goal that is being accomplished by sharing information about hunger and poverty daily with everyone through the morning announcements. Students, teachers, and parents have been feverishly making bowls. Canned food was collected during hunger week in November and donated to a local food bank. Congratulations to the junior class for bringing in the most food. December is Sharing and Caring month. Toys are being collected to give to needy children for the holidays. Clothing is being collected to help keep the needy warm this winter. CONNECTICUT FORUM has become active this semester. Students have attended monthly meetings at other schools and some students participated in a daylong workshop with 100+ students at the Travelers Insurance Group in Hartford on Saturday, November 20th. On December 14th the Hall High School chapter will be hosting 100-150 students and staff from various area schools to discuss issues relevant to the students. Students appreciate the opportunity to have a forum to discuss issues. All of the pictures and information contained herein |
