Empty Bowls is a nationwide community service learning program which challenges students to identify, research, design and implement solutions to issues related to hunger and poverty.
Our goal at Hall is to raise awareness of students, parents, local residents and businesses around issues of hunger and poverty.
The basic process of raising money is to have students make ceramic bowls to serve homemade soup to people in the school and local community in exchange for a donation of money. The community members keep the bowls both in appreciation and as a reminder that every time they take their bowl from the cupboard, someone else's bowl is always empty. This year the banquet will be held on March 5 so save the date!
The group also organizes other fundraisers throughout the year such as bake sales, food drives and an ice skating party. A new addition this year is the first ever "Hall H.S. Cookbook".
In the past years Empty Bowls has donated $15,000.00 to Foodshare , Holcomb Farm , Town That Cares (a West Hartford organization) and The Columbus House.

*One in ten households in the US are living with or are at risk of hunger.
*Nearly half (47%) of all emergency food recipients served by food banks live in rural or suburban areas of the country.
