Stevenson: He's good. He's very, very good.
By Ben Firshein

Teddy Stevenson is one of the most athletic people one will ever meet. During his first three years at Hall, he has run cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track, and played basketball and baseball. His dedication is an inspiration to many young runners, and his sense of sportsmanship should be an example to everyone.

Stevenson is tremendously talented, a great winner and a gracious loser. He is a captain of boys’ cross-country, and a leader on and off the track.

Ben Firshein: Whoa! I’m a little intimidated to be sitting in the same room as you. You’re a legend.
Teddy Stevenson: Shut up.

BF
: Rumor has it you and senior captain Colin Carroll trained like animals this summer.
TS: Yeah, on a daily basis we stripped down to our running shorts and ran hand in hand through the summer heat.
BF: What are your expectations for the team this year?
TS: Colin, myself, Greg O. and Coby M. put in a lot of miles this summer, so we should have a solid senior core. However, the rest of the team has to work hard to work up to varsity to help us compete.
BF: So when did you realize you were meant to join the “Trackie Cult”?
TS: I think it was over this past summer when I realized that our daily run was the high point of my day.
BF: You just had a birthday. What did your mother buy you?
TS: Two pairs of running shorts and running shorts.
BF: Who’s your idol?
TS: I’ve got four: Ian Hill, Michael Jackson, Ken Griffey Jr. (seasons 1989-1996) and Adam Corolla.

Hello, my name is: Teddy Stevenson
BF: How many races would you like to win this year to be satisfied with your performance?
TS: Six or seven dual meets, and I would like to win a big invitational event.
BF: What do you think of the Supreme Court ruling that declared random drug-testing legal in public schools?
TS: I look forward to being tested. They are going to be like, “Oh my God! This is the lowest T.H.C. count I’ve ever seen!”
BF: Who can you attribute your success to as a cross country runner?
TS: All of the guys that graduated last year. They all really cared about the team, worked hard and were good leaders. And of course, Coach Butterfield. Ask anyone- he is a very inspirational coach.
BF: Teddy, I’ve been meaning to ask you. What is it like to be a heartthrob?
TS: You know, it gets a little hectic at times, trying to balance ladies, Colin, and running.
BF: Do you plan on continuing your running career in college?
TS: Definitely. I didn’t work this hard for nothing.
BF: You were a two-time MVP in the town league basketball league. What happened with your basketball career?
TS: The court and I gradually distanced ourselves until our relationship was completely cut off. However, I still dream of throwing one down while running those endless miles.
