A
team taught class, ASK was developed more than 30 years ago
for underachieving
students that possess average to excellent ability in grades 10-12.
Students earn two credits per year—English (Modern World
Literature, Contemporary Writing, Literature and Society) and Social
Studies (Contemporary Social Problems, American Themes, Society/Family/Community).
These classes fulfill standard English requirements and American
government for Social Studies. Students meet for two periods of
English and Social Studies. They
return during the day for additional academic help or other assistance.
In addition ASK students have access to a social worker who helps
with issues that may be affecting performance. The classes focus
on themes and issues in contemporary world society. Whether combined
or taught
separately,
the classes
require
reading,
writing, thinking and discussing important topics.
Students are selected by the Coordinator who identifies appropriate candidates
via progress reports, grades, recommendations, testing background, self/peer/parental
referrals and interviews. For more information, please contact the ASK Coordinator,
Mr. James Solomon (Jim_Solomon@whps.org).
