  When did the English colonists arrive?  The people from Spaniards were the first to build a colony in Saint Augustine, Florida in 1585.   The English built their first colony in 1585, but then the colony failed.  They moved to a different spot in 1587.  In 1607, the English built Jamestown.  Its location is known as the Virginia Colony.  The Pilgrims created the second colony that is now the Plymoth Colony that is located in Massachusetts.  The English took over eleven other colonies!  they were New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Rhode Island, Delaware, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and New Jersey.  These colonies are known as the Thirteen Colonies.
