How did America break free from England?
When England needed money, to pay for the weapons that had been used in the last Pilgrim, and Indian war, they started taxing the Colonists for everything (taxing means making someone pay money for something...but it's different than making someone pay for something they buy in a store). The Colonists thought that England didn't have a right to tax them at all. So they took all of the British tea that had been shipped from England, and dumped it into Boston Harbor. It then became known as the
Boston Tea Party. So, then the American Revolution started. (Also known as the Revolutionary War). In 1776, The Declaration of Independence was written and told England exactly why America wanted to be free. Then, (still in 1776) the French, made a decision, and went over to America's side and helped the Colonists win the war!
