Back to Colonial Home What happened to the Indians?

As more colonist arrived, the more land they took up. This left many Indians with nowhere to live. Angry, some Indians fought. In March of 1622 Indians killed about 350 colonist in Virginia, but they normally lost their battles. King Phillip led the Narragansett, and the Wampanoag tribes against the Indians in Massachusetts, and Rode Island. The tribes were nearly destroyed in this fight, which is known as King Philip's War. Many other wars uncured in between 1689 and 1763. These were called French and Indian wars, because the Indians joined the French in fighting the colonists. English soldiers helped beat the French and the Indians. After losing the battle, the Indians lost even more of their land.
