Most Colonist were English, but people from Scotland, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, France Sweden, and more countries came. The Colonists brought black slaves from Africa to the Virginia Colony in 1619. Eventually there were slaves in all Colonies, but mostly the South. Also, there were many religions, such as Puritans and Quakers, Jews and Catholics, Lutherans and Presbyterians. With all these people the population rose from about 1700 to about 250,000 colonists!
