The English came to America because laws in European countries favored the oldest son. Some of these young Englishmen came to America to get land. People also came because of religion. In England King Phillip  told people how to worship. Many people, including the pilgrims, came to America where they could worship as they pleased. Rhode Island [1636]and Pennsylvania [1643] w2ere havens for religious freedom.
