Do you know what a magnet is? If you don’t and you want to know I suggest reading this essay.

            Have you wondered what magnets attract?  Well a magnet usually sticks to items with iron in them. For example a paper clip would stick to a magnet so would a compass. Plastic would not stick to a magnet.

            I’ve bet you wondered what kinds of magnets we have. One kind is the electronic magnet which works like this. You take a nail, a battery, and some wire. First you coil the wire around the nail. Then you attach the two ends of the wire to the battery (one on each end.) Then the nail should get magnetic.

            Do you know what we use magnets for in ordinary life. Well, we can use them to save an animal’s life. One way we use magnets is on cows. Funny hu, but it can save the cows life. This is how it works. Vets put a small magnet that the cow can swallow in its stomach. What the magnet does is attract all the tinny pieces of iron that gets mixed up in its food. It helps it because if it wasn’t there the iron that gets mixed up in its food will cut throw the cows stomach and get in its intestines. And if it gets really unlucky it mite get in its lungs or heart.

            So if you ever see a cow, or see a crane in a junk yard with a magnet on it remember this it just mite help you in the future.
