Magnet Essay

By: Amanda Winter

Did you know that magnets are mostly all made out of iron? In this essay I will be talking about magnets. Specifically ways we use magnets, what items a magnet will or will not attract, and items that magnets will or not attract through.

Magnets can be used for many things and be helpful for many things, here are some of them. Humans can use magnets for hanging papers, we can use cow magnets to make sure that if the cow chews a piece of metal it will stick to the cow magnet and protect it from going through their intestines so they can use magnets to help attract things with iron in it, you can use magnets to also help with hanging many other things besides hanging papers like pictures, last you can use magnets for experiments almost anywhere. These can all help you with work and how to use magnets on different things.

Magnets can attract many different types of things but mostly things with iron in them. Here are some of those things: paper clips, lockers, other types of magnets, tin cans, refrigerators, freezers, and also many other things that have iron in them. Here are some things that magnets can not stick or attract to: paper, coins, dollar bills, pencils, plastic, pens, crayons, shoes, books and many other every day objects like blankets, and backpacks. You can probably think of a lot of items that they can stick to.

Now that you know what magnets do and don’t attract to I’ll be telling you what magnets can and can’t attract through and what type of magnet is used best for this. Magnets can attract through these following things: cardboard, plastic cups, tin foil, and a ceramic or clay mug but magnets can’t attract through these following objects: shoes, hands, soup cans, most thick items, wood, books, magnets can also attract to some of these types of things like rocks. The best type of magnet to be used is a pressed magnet.

So next time you are doing a magnet experiment in school you will already know some ways we use them, things that magnets can stick to, and what magnets can stick through you will be an expert on magnets!
