Save the Date(s).....UPDATED!

Wednesday June 18th: End of the Year Classroom Celebration 11:30 - 12:30
* We will have light snacks and students will share their writing in a very laid back (non formal) setting. I could not schedule this right after the awards ceremony on the 13th because parents who have children in 3rd and 4th grades would then not be able to attend the event.

Wednesday June 18th: End of the Year Class Picnic 1:15 - 2:00
* More information to come from Krista Paparazzo regarding this event

Thursday June 19th - Final Town Meeting of the Year 9:00 - 10:30

Please let me know if you have any questions.

The Foundation for West Hartford Public Schools

I just wanted to take the time to thank The Foundation for West Hartford Public Schools.  This school year they funded a grant in our classroom called "Hands on Literacy".  The funds from this grant were used to purchase materials and supplies to develop a literacy center area in our classroom.  I can't put into words how much this grant has helped our students with their literacy based skills (as I'm sure you have seen with their yearly progress).  If you have the means to donate to the foundation, please do so.  I can speak first hand how successful programs can be that have the opportunity to be funded.

Message from Mrs. Glasier regarding PE Attire

This is just a reminder that I ask you to give your students regarding "appropriate PE attire." The gymnastics equipment will be up until Friday, April 11th which means that students must come to class in appropriate clothing. Dresses/skirts do not allow for optimal movement for obvious reasons, especially when worn with tights. Long pants aren't safe either and should be avoided on PE days to prevent injuries.
Most classes have done a pretty good job with these guidelines but there are enough classes that need additional reminders. Students who do not come dressed safely may be asked to sit out and this is not something anyone wants so if you could find a way to include a reminder for your students, that would be much appreciated!

Thank You,
Beth Glasier

New Behavior Reward System

We have started a new behavior management system in class.  The system still uses the flip-a-card system but does not allow students to miss recess time.  Instead, students are rewarded with tickets for their good behavior.  Ask your child all about the new system tonight!

Home School Journal

Please remind your children to bring in their home school journals every week.  Each week, fewer and fewer children are bringing them in.  I'm hoping this coming week for a 100% percent return rate.  Thanks for your help!

Math Facts

Your children have been practicing their math facts on thatquiz.com.  Every week they take a 5 minute timed test on their addition and subtraction facts.  These scores are recorded every week so their progress can be charted since the beginning of the year.   Their results are never compared to other students.  Instead, I challenge each student to beat their previous high scores.  I mention all of this because some students want to know if they score well on a timed test while practicing at home, if they can bring in those results to get recorded.  I've told students that as long as a parent verifies the scores at home, they can write me a note and I will add these to their spreadsheet. Hope this helps!

Snack Reminder

Just a friendly reminder that we are a peanut-free classroom.  Please do not send in snacks or treats that contain peanuts or peanut material of any kind.  We have food allergies in the classroom and just being near these types of foods can be extremely dangerous to these students.  Thank you for your help.

Want to volunteer?

Do you want to come into the classroom to help out with Writer's Workshop?  Do you have a book you like to read aloud to the class?  Email me with your available times because we'd love to have you spend time in our classroom.
