History of Wolcott
The Henry A. Wolcott School was opened in April 1957.
The school was named in gratitude of Henry A. Wolcott, a mechanical and civil engineer whose work included the design for the West Hartford Armory.
Mr. Wolcott was a prominent member of the West Hartford community during the early 20th century. He was elected to the position of Second Selectman for West Hartford in 1909, and continued in town service for 24 years. During his extended tenure, Mr. Wolcott served four years on the town finance board, two years on the zoning board, nine years on the Board of Education, and four years representing West Hartford in the Connecticut General Assembly.
The school rests on a 24-acre site that was originally a portion of the 50-acre Wolcott farm. The remaining area of the farm now plays host to Wolcott Park.
