Helping Your Child to Make Reader/Text Connections
Here are some excellent
questions to help your child make connections between the text that he
or she is reading independently and outside experiences and knowledge.

courageous. Tell how that experience was like the experience of

Think about what this story says about
people in general. In what ways does it remind you of people you have
read about? (Your child should give evidence from the text to support
his or her opinion.

were alive today, what would you most like to ask him or her? (Your
child should give evidence from the book to support his or her answer.)

questions to help your child select, synthesize, and/or use relevant
information within a written work that he or she is reading
independently to form a personal response to the text.
