more about the Early intervention is the philosophy of the Early Learning Center. Specific strategies and methodologies proven effective in addressing the developmental needs of a preschooler and implemented by parents and teachers can often reduce or eliminate the need for help a child requires later on in school. This early intervention coupled with the team approach are central to our practice in working with the preschool child, family, and community providers/professionals. Referrals are made by parents and are handled confidentially. The Intake Coordinator will elicit your concerns and answer any questions you may have. She may also ask additional questions in order to determine how we can best respond to your request. This information is then shared with the ELC Diagnostic Team. Registration is required prior to receipt of any service. You will receive a registration packet containing several forms which must be completed and returned. You will also need to visit the West Hartford Public Schools Residency Office to register your child as a possible recipient for services. The Diagnostic Team consists of a special education supervisor, special education teachers, a speech/language pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, school psychologist, social worker, and nurse. These professionals are highly experienced in their respective areas of expertise, as well as in the area of early childhood development. A case manager will be assigned to contact you when your registration materials have been received. The case manager may then recommend either an informal meeting with parents and/or preschool providers or an informal observation of your child. Options on how to proceed will also be discussed.
