The Early Learning Center

The Early Learning Center (ELC), sponsored by the West Hartford Public Schools, offers a continuum of services to West Hartford preschoolers (ages 3-5), parents, and community preschools.  The program is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, a national, voluntary, professionally sponsored accreditation system. This means that the ELC of West Hartford has demonstrated a commitment to providing a high quality program for young children and their families.

Services may include:

  • consultation to parents and/or community-based preschools

  • observations of preschoolers pertaining to one or more developmental areas of concern

  • evaluations of preschoolers in one or more developmental areas of concern

  • participation in the ELC program for eligible preschoolers

A referral to the Early Learning Center can be made if a child's preschool teacher, pediatrician, or early childhood professional has raised concerns about one or more of the following areas:

  • speech/language development
  • fine/gross/sensorimotor development
  • attention, focus, self-help skills
  • cognitive/pre-readiness development
  • social-emotional development/behavioral functioning
