Welcome Back to Whiting Lane! |
|
Flag Raising Ceremony |
|

This year our staff, students and parents gathered in back of
the school for a commencement to remember. A teacher named
Mrs. Brahaney who used to teach kindergarten at Whiting Lane
some years back led us in the pledge of allegiance while our new
band director, Alan Smith, played the trumpet as the spectators
sang The Star Spangled Banner. Also, our new vocal
music teacher, Sarah Chasse, led the school in singing My
Country 'Tis of Thee. What a great way to start off
the new school year!

Autism Speaks |

Pictured at the Capitol Building in D.C.
are Noreen Simmons and Beth Katten (1st row, far left), parents
of sons with autism at Whiting Lane Elementary and King Phillip
Middle School in West Hartford, with Autism Speaks volunteers
from across the U.S., Founders Bob and Suzanne Wright, and CT
Senator Chris Dodd (a West Hartford native!). Noreen and Beth
traveled with a delegation from the Greater Hartford chapter of
Autism Speaks to attend their annual Leadership
Conference. The highlight of the conference was joining Senator
Dodd for his announcement of the Disabilities Savings Act of
2008, on March 11th. The Disabilities Savings Act would
enable individuals and families to save funds, tax free, for the
future needs of their child with a disability, much like
families are able to save to send their typically developing
children to college. To find out more about Autism Speaks'
mission to support autism research, local and national advocacy,
and community outreach and awareness, log on to

The 3rd annual Greater Hartford Walk Now For Autism will
take place in a new location, Walnut Hill Park in New Britain,
on June 8th. |
