Smith School of Science, Math, and Technology is an elementary magnet school of choice that serves a culturally rich community of learners. By emphasizing high expectations, strong family partnerships and an innovative curriculum centered on math, science and technology, Smith creates an environment conducive to high academic achievement. Smith School was nationally recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2001 by the U.S. Department of Education.

Smith School is a dynamic elementary school that serves 378 students in grades pre-K through 5. Approximately 80% of Smith's students live in the neighborhood attendance zone and the remaining 20% are drawn from other parts of town. Parents who live outside the neighborhood attendance zone are attracted by the challenging and unique opportunities that Smith affords its students. Smith's popularity is underscored by the limited number of vacancies available each year and the school's lengthy waiting list.

Smith employs approximately thirty teachers, 76% of whom hold a postgraduate degree. Smith's teachers use a variety of instructional methodologies to accommodate the multiple learning styles and interests of their students. They understand the developmental needs of children and strive to nurture their academic, social and emotional growth.

Smith School has an active and supportive PTO. Parents work collaboratively with staff members to implement enrichment activities that enhance learning. In addition, the PTO sponsors events to celebrate the cultural diversity of the school. Together, parents and teachers contribute to the success of Smith School.
