Team Building

Team building activities are important elements of physical education classes in grades 3 through 5. Our focus is on learning teamwork that promotes cooperation and cohesiveness through physical challenge.
In all activities, everyone contributes something to make the whole team stronger. Each team is presented with a challenge: then they huddle, brainstorm, and try to solve the problem!
 

Swamp Machine: An Exercise in Team Building

"Swamp Machine" is a team building exercise that is fun and challenging for everyone.  The object is to build a vehicle out of two gymnastic mats and transport their team members two to four at a time across the swamp (gym floor) without touching the swamp in the vehicle.  Students have to figure it out mathematically because there can be no more than three and no less than four at a time, and they can't make more than two consecutive trips.  It's lots of fun!

These kinds of activities foster cooperation, communication, collaboration, concentration, and constructive thinking. Wow! What fun!
