How do
I register my child for school in West Hartford?
All children are registered in the
Residency Office,
Town Hall, 50 South Main Street, Room 154 [map]. Call (860) 561-6620 to make an
appointment; you will be advised of the proper documents
to bring to
the meeting.
How do I apply
for the magnet lottery at
Smith?
Please visit
the West Hartford Public Schools
web site for
more information on the
Elementary Magnet
School Lottery.
Smith School
is a district magnet school for
West Hartford
residents. The magnet process
begins each year
in late February when
applications
become available at all West
Hartford
elementary schools and at the Education
Center.
Applications are due in the Residency
Office by 4:00
p.m. on March 29th.
Follow the
instructions on the application to
register your child for
the lottery. You must be a
West Hartford resident,
and your child must be
registered at the Residency Office (see above).
The lottery takes
place in early April. Families
are notified of their
acceptance or place on the
wait list. The wait list
is revisited in late June
and August for available
seats.
How do I apply
for the magnet preschool
lottery at
Smith?
The magnet lottery
for the preschool program
begins each January. You
must be a West Hartford
resident, and your child
must be registered at the
Residency Office (see
above). Applications are
available at the Smith
School office. Siblings of
current Smith School
magnet students are given
preference for available
seats, and magnet seats are
limited to 5 per
year.
