Project-Based Learning in the LMC

All research projects in the library media center are collaborative efforts between classroom teachers and the library media specialist. Research strategies are based on the Big 6, which is a set of steps for effectively and efficiently meeting information needs:

Step 1 What's my job? Define the problem
Task Definition Identify the information needed
Step 2 Where can I look to find what I need? Determine all possible sources
Information Seeking Strategies Select the best source
Step 3 Where can I go to find what I need? Locate the sources
Location & Access Find information within the sources
Step 4 What kind of information can I find here? Engage in the information (view, listen, read)
Use of Information Extract necessary information
Step 5 What can I make or do to show what I've learned? Organize the information
Synthesis Present the results
Step 6 Am I proud of my work? Judge the results
Evaluation Judge the process
