The Super Bowl and Smith School
by ANDREW and DEXTER

On February 4, 2007, the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts played in Super Bowl XLI. The Colts won, 29-14.

The Colts have a great quarterback, number 18, Peyton Manning. And so do the Bears, number 8, Rex Grossman, but he didn’t play that well. The Colts have a running back named Joseph Addai, number 29. The Bears have a great linebacker Brian Urlacher, number 54. The head coach of the Colts is Tony Dungy. The head coach of the Bears is Lovie Smith. They were the first African-American head coaches to be in the Super Bowl.

We asked people at Smith School who they wanted to win. Most of them wanted the Bears to win. Mrs. Callahan and Ms. Graboski both wanted the Bears to win. So did Mr. Caira. But he thought the Colts would win because “they have a great offense and a terrific quarterback.”

“I do think the defense of the Bears is excellent, led by my favorite player Brian Urlacher,” said Mr. Caira. “But I am nervous about Rex Grossman. I do not think he is very good.” He thought the score would be Colts 29, Bears 17. He was off by only 3 points! Mr. Darald wanted the Colts to win because “they’ve been in there a long time. The Bears can win later. They’re a young team.”

We wanted the Bears to win! But there’s always next year.

Travel Soccer
by ABBY

The three things I like about soccer are: it is fun and exciting. Also, it is very aggressive. I am on the travel soccer team. We are called the "Huskies". I was first on the West Hartford recreational league teams for three years. They are similar because they both are soccer, of course, and they both go against teams. Also, they use the same rules and positions. I enjoyed both.

For travel soccer you have to try out. Last year 60 kids tried out. They took 28 kids. The field is bigger and the goals in travel soccer are bigger. In travel soccer, we play against teams from other towns and states. It is scary, but it is a challenge. It is a very good challenge.

Travel soccer is a lot more work. We practice for an hour and a half, twice a week. Also, we play games on Saturdays and Sundays. Our team games are in West Hartford and all over. Travel means moving around, and we do! Travel soccer is a huge commitment for me, and the team and our families.

Travel soccer is a lot of work. Travel soccer is probably not for everybody, but it is exciting, it's fun and it's the best sport in the world for me!
