CLAUDIA: The Fourth of July is America's Independence Day. It is about American being free from England and ruling itself. Everybody loves the Fourth of July because of the big celebrations with fireworks and games. The Fourth of July is the birthday of America. The Fourth of July is a day of being happy and jolly because it's the day we became free.

DYLAN: On the Fourth of July I visit my family. I have a barbeque and a party and celebrate. My cousins come to play. It is very special.

OMAR: I like when I go to my cousin's birthday party. His birthday is on the Fourth of July. We watch colorful fireworks. They are awesome!

NIA: I celebrate July Fourth by making a cake. We put the flag on the cake and put stars on the cake.

ELLA: On the Fourth of July I have a big party! At the party we decorate the cake with flags and we get out the sparklers. Sometimes, I burn my toe, but it is exciting!

A Kid's-Eye View of the Pledge

by DANIELLE and PATRICIA

I pledge a leegance to the flag
(what's a leegance?)
Of the United States of America.
And to the republic, for Richard Stands
(who's he?),
One nation, under God,
Invisible (who's invisible?)
With liberty and just is for all.
