Guide for Student Success
(COMING SOON)
Lab Safety Contract.pdf
I take laboratory safety VERY seriously. These forms are
signed early in the year (by parents/guardians and students) and
are referred to frequently.
Textbook Reading How-to.pdf
One of the most important skills a student can learn is how to
read and take notes more efficiently. To help students
succeed in my class, and well beyond, I use this sheet to help
student learn how to use a textbook to their advantage and hone
their note-taking skills.

Essential Question: What is
science?
|
NOTE:
All students should be recording their grades into the back of
their vocabulary books.
TO CALCULATE GRADE:
1.) Add up all points earned ("score"
column).
2.)Add up all points offered ("out of"
column).
3.) Divide the points earned total by
the points offered total (it should
work out to be a decimal).
4.) Multiply the resulting decimal by
100 to get the percentage.
In their vocabulary books (for the
3rd Quarter), the students
should have the following number of grades:

This is a list of
web-based resources that I have found helpful and interesting.
This list is in no way exhaustive, and updates will be made
periodically.

Search Engines
Nettrekker This search
engine is outstanding for a variety of reasons. First off, you
can save your searches for easy reference by logging in (a very
painless procedure), and the searches can be specific to grade-level
and subject area.
Secondly, the results produced by this site include pages that are
usually very reliable and informative.

Cells
Cells Alive! This site contains some very good pictures,
animations, and information about cells and cellular processes.
I use it a lot in class, but cells can never be boring, so check it
out at home too!
Onion Cell Pictures
This site contains
some amazing microscopy pictures of onion skins under a variety of
powers, stains, and lighting effects. Done mostly by amateurs,
it really makes science seem more exciting and approachable.
