Thursday, September 27
English: Nonfiction
personal narrative, draft 1.
Content
This is a true story about
something that once happened to you. Use your topic generator to
help you come up with an experience worth
preserving. Remember that I am grading
your writing, not your experience. The most
important experiences often make the worst
topics. Avoid "bed-to-bed" diary entries that
encompass an entire day. Try to relate an
experience that occurred over 5 or 10 minutes of
real time.
Start with something moving in the first sentence. This
will keep you from writing an
introduction. Spill your ideas on the paper.
Organization, elaboration and fluency will
follow. Right now get your ideas on paper.
Appearance
This is handwritten in pencil on single sides of
white-lined paper. Paperclip when done to
enable you to later spread the entire paper out in
front of you. Remember to put the
proper heading in the upper right and to label it,
"Draft 1."
Audience
The audience is you, the writer. This is often called the
"sloppy copy." Spelling doesn't count!
We will edit this paper in class on
Friday. Draft 2 will be done on computer
next week.
