Thursday, September 7

English:

Please leave your vocabulary books at home in a safe place. We will test Unit 1 next week, but the books do not come to school for that. The books will return to school in approximately two weeks when we correct Unit 2.

1. Word for the Day quiz (stationary, stationery, plane, plain, there, they're, their) and Spelling Quiz (absolutely, acceptance, absence).

2. Use the A.S.C. method to respond to this question: According to the author of "On Turning Ten," what is the worst part of turning ten?

Remember:

A - Answer the question correctly using words from the question.

S - Support your answer by quoting or paraphrasing from the text. Do not make assumptions about what the poet was probably thinking. Evidence must be present in the poem.

C - Closure. Why is your answer important ("So what?"), or how does your answer relate to you?

We will spend most of Friday in the library for a book talk. By Monday, students will compile eight titles (sixteen in honors) of books they want to read this year. The titles should span at least four genres.
