Jenny needs to make a
decision as to what to cook for her family so
that they will have a low fat healthy meal.
For the entrée Jenny has
to decide between fried chicken and roasted
chicken. If Jenny decided to serve 3 ounces of
chicken this would count toward the 5 ounces you
should have per day of the meat and bean group.
This food group provides protein to build
healthy cells and muscle and B vitamins for
energy, iron to help carry oxygen in the blood
as well as other nutrients for your diet.
The tip is to “go lean
with protein” so Jenny should decide on the
roasted chicken. The fried chicken would supply
more fat in the diet. Fat can contribute to
obesity and heart disease. The breading also
would add salt to the diet which can lead to
high blood pressure and stroke.
The dietary guideline that
Jenny should use here is to choose a diet that
is low in cholesterol and saturated fat and
moderate in total fat. The roasted chicken would
be lower in fat and cholesterol.
