From The PT Council:

**The proposed budget is a 6.5% increase - this is smaller than the 6.8% rollover budget (maintaining status quo) increase

**Major cost increases in budget are due to following, and the district has no control over these increases:

1. New bid for transportation contracts - our last contract was signed in 2000 when diesel fuel was $1.39 per gallon - using the mid-priced bidder as a guide the expected increase to this line item alone is $1.45 million, that is a 38% increase

2. Utility costs went up approx 6%

3. Teacher contracted salaries and benefits increase the budget by $5.64 million.  Please note this does not represent a 5.25% increase in teacher salaries.  (Jas Singh, is preparing information we will be able to pass on in the near future explaining how the salary increases are determined)

The link to access the Superintendent's budget on line is http://www.whps.org/budget/Executive%20Budget%20Summary%20v1.1.pdf

Important - we need speakers:

March 27: Public Hearing - parents are encouraged to speak up and support unwanted cuts: Issues impacting Sedgwick students, teachers and programs directly are: 1) cutting teams in 2008 - 2009 school year for incoming 6th and 7th grades to 21/2 teams, the 8th grade team will be a full 3 teams.  2) Cutting middle school sports, track & field and cross country.

Another important piece of information to pass on is about the parent organization WH First their link is www.whfirst.org and all community members are encouraged to check it out.

Some highlights from their web site are:
