Standard Math

Math Thematics - The Math Thematics program is designed to implement the NCTM Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics.  The goal is to develop math power in all students by actively engaging users in investigating, discovering and applying mathematics.   The program emphasizes critical thinking, reasoning and problem solving, viewing math as relevant to real-life and connected to other areas, and being able to communicate about and through mathematics.

Honors Math

Passport to Mathematics - Honors Math uses Passport to Mathematics by Larson, Boswell, Kanold, and Stiff.  The book covers many topics such as number relations and fractions, fractions and their operations, algebra and integers, ratios, proportions, percents, decimals, geometry, probability, equations and functions.  At the back of the book, there are various tools to help your student be successful in math such as, selected answers, tables, glossary, symbols, geometric formulas, and the index.

Connected Math - Connected Mathematics is comprised of several student booklets. Each workbook organizes around an important mathematical idea. Connected Mathematics develops content from five mathematical strands: numbers and operations, geometry, measurement, data analysis and probability, and algebra. Students will be exposed to problems that are real-world or whimsical situations, and other problems will be purely mathematical.

Calculators

Calculators are a tool and are used as such when appropriate.  Many units in 6th grade are computation units and therefore calculators are not allowed.  There are certain problem solving units and formula building units where calculators are allowed.
