Minutes of the Meeting of April 29, 2004

I. Ross Joel called the meeting to order at 6:36 PM.
Ross welcomed the members present and reviewed the agenda.
II. Updates
a. Morley & 150th parade: Morley was unable to get a volunteer to coordinate a Morley float for the 150th parade.
b. Pond House Event: The Pond House event raised $9,000. Congratulations to the committee-great job.
c. Morley Picnic – no representative.
d.
Mural Documentary: 2 ˝ weeks from completion of “Making the Mural”.
The PTO will be selling the DVD as a fundraiser.
Need input on pricing. The
mural DVD may be shown at the picnic so people can order.
There will be a pre-order in the Reader.
III. Speaker: Mike Aparo –“Family Health & Fitness”
Mike showed a PowerPoint presentation on obesity trends and statistics
across the United States. Parts of this presentation were shown to the
children. The focus was on kids
moving rather than sitting, correct diet. Mike
plans to continue the fitness calendar this year.
Mike handed out a family physical activity questionnaire to parents.
IV. Updates/Reports
a. Fundraising- See Pond House above
b. Programming - working on Morley Picnic

Playground Committee Report – Sharon LaPointe reporting.
The committee met with the design foreman for the brick patio and came
away with some great ideas. With
the success of the Pond House and brick sale, we will be able to replace the old
swings on the playground. We are on
track to start construction the week school ends with a 2-3 week completion
timeframe. The idea of an informal
gathering to kick-off the playground for the summer was mentioned as a way to
open the playground upon completion. A
formal ribbon cutting ceremony was mentioned for the opening day of school 2004.

Treasurer’s Report – The PTO is in very good financial shape.
There will be money left over after the playground is paid in full.

KIDS Fund Report – Request for new furniture for the library.
The current student tables and chairs are 20 years old and need to be
replaced. Needed are 6 youth size tables that seat 4 students, 3
rectangular tables for workspace and chairs.
This request was put to a vote and the majority of the attending PTO
members were in favor of the library furniture purchase.
V. Principal’s Report
There will be a May 12 School Improvement Council Meeting.
Dr. Rosow reported results of the Parent Teacher Survey. There was a 74% return from Morley parents! In all areas, Morley’s average was higher than that nationwide.
