A Free Service for
Families and Children
HANOC helps families with
limited economic means to become more financially independent and integrated
into the schools and community by coordinating resources to meet their needs.
HANOC is a collaborative effort of the West Hartford Public Schools, Town of
West Hartford, West Hartford Housing Authority, and other community agencies.
Current Programs Offered at HANOC

After-School Homework Center:
The after-school homework center provides structure,
support, and resources for children to successfully complete homework and to
manage school difficulties. Teacher
and parents volunteers and school support staff are on hand to assist children
and answer parent questions.
Monday to Thursday 3:30 to 5:30
Case Management Services – Family Self-Sufficiency
Professionals are on-site to provide assessment,
information, referrals, food and housing assistance, employment assistance, and
career and mental health counseling.
Monday to Thursday by appointment
Parent Support Group
The parent support group provides parents an opportunity to
set goals, share concerns and provide mutual support. They are the advisors to HANOC, and a variety of leadership
and parenting training opportunities are available through participation in this
group.
Mondays 5:30 to 6:30
Play Group
Moms and their children, ages birth to 4, come together to
enjoy a supportive environment with snacks, activities, fun, and learning.
Adult Education
Basic skills, GED, and ESOL classes are available for
parents at HANOC.
Three nights a week.

Women’s Group
This is a group for women living in the Hillcrest Avenue
area who are interested in personal growth and building self-confidence in all
areas of life.
Tuesdays 6:00 to 7:00 pm, childcare provided
Middle School Group
Staff from the Bridge Family Center and the West Hartford
Public Schools provides activities, programs, and support for students in Grades
6-8 in the areas of enhancing social skills, building self-esteem, and
understanding gender and cultural diversity.
Thursdays 5:00
Summer Programs
A free summer program is provided at HANOC.
Students attend a morning session of academics in which they read novels,
write reader’s responses in journals, write and illustrate books, and
practiced math facts and concepts on math blaster on the computer.

HANOC provides many opportunities for volunteerism.
If you want to help make a child’s future brighter, consider
volunteering at HANOC. If you want to
mentor an adult or help senior citizens, consider volunteering at HANOC.
