ESOL
...is the teaching of English to
Speakers of Other Languages.
The
goal of this program is for Limited English Proficient students to develop
language in the area of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and to
use English in socially and culturally appropriate ways.
This will enable students to better communicate both socially and
academically.
Students who have
a language background other than English are identified and given the
Language Assessment Scale or LAS.
Based
upon the score if students qualify, they may be placed in the ESOL program
on a daily basis or just several times a week.
Students’ skills range from non-English speaker to fluent and
needing just a little help with reading or writing.
