Mission and Goals

The Library Media program supports and promotes the instructional goals of the West Hartford Public Schools by meeting the information needs of students and staff.  To address these needs, the library media program provides instruction, services, and resources to prepare students for the demands of an information-rich society.  Three essential components comprise the framework for effective library media programs:  learning and teaching, information access and delivery, and program administration. Conard High School's library media program creates a foundation for lifelong learning by providing:

• instruction and learning experiences which encourage students and staff to become discriminating users of information through instruction

• a range of curriculum-based resources in a variety of formats: books, magazines, videotapes, audiotapes, CD-ROMs and on-line services

• leadership and assistance to staff in integrating information technology with classroom curriculum

• opportunities for multimedia production

• books that support the curriculum in a variety of reading levels

• magazines and books that appeal to student interest

• information technology which enhances communication, presentation and research skills

• guidelines for responsible use of information technology

• facilities which include areas for reading, viewing, listening, research and instruction

• an information center which provides opportunities for students to make connections across the curriculum
