Welcome to Charter Oak Academy of Global Studies!

What is different about The Charter Oak Academy of Global Studies?   Besides being a thriving magnet school in Connecticut, we have the added advantage of being nestled in the midst of the West Hartford District where we have students from 20 countries, speaking 14 languages!  Naturally this has led to unique, high interest programs centered on building international- mindedness, while maintaining rigor, relevance, respect and responsibility.

We are in the midst of taking a giant step forward on the road to success by melding with Switzerland’s International Baccalaureate Programme of learning to develop internationally-minded students with an increased focus on Inquiry-based learning in all curricula areas.

Embarking on this journey toward the International Baccalaureate Programme is an educational dream!  Our focus will be to improve students’ achievement levels based on research of the best state, national and international practices. Going beyond strong mastery skills, we are going to be working very hard to develop principled, caring students who can ask questions, think for themselves, make sound decisions, and can clearly communicate their thoughts to others.

As a professional learning community we are committed to working with students and families to bring out the best in each individual, truly leaving no child behind in our community.  Effective early interventions give students a start in building strengths as early as Pre-School to Grade 1.   Students in Grades 2–5 enter a “university-going” environment with an opportunity to learn and explore, with a focus on college, school-to-career, and other post-secondary options for ongoing learning. Ultimately, lifelong learners make better choices and, in turn, tend to give back to their families, schools, local and greater world community.  Stay tuned…

Our Charter Oak team equals the best of all individuals – students, staff and parents!
