What is Reader's Workshop?

Charter Oak students participate in Reader’s Workshop. Reader’s Workshop organizes the best practices in the teaching of reading to provide each child with instruction that meets his or her individual needs.
Reader’s
Workshop has five main components:
1.
A teacher lesson to provide direct instruction and modeling in a
reading skill
2. Independent reading at the child's just right level
3.
Guided reading in small teacher directed groups
4. Reading Conferences to discuss child's just right book and provide direction for independent practice
5. Teaching share to end workshop to provide time to think and respond to questions about how we have grown as readers.
