Circulation

Charter Oak uses Athena, a computerized circulation system.  Every student and teacher is registered as a library user.  Students may sign out books for 2 weeks.  Students in K and 1st grade may choose one book per visit, and students in 2nd through 5th may choose up to 3 books per visit.

Students may check out magazines, books and books on tape.

Teachers and parents may sign out videos in addition to the other materials.

Overdue fines are not charged, however if a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, a fee is assessed.  Students are encouraged to return damaged items, as they may be saved.  Money is refunded if a lost book is paid for, and then returned.

Students must return outstanding loans before choosing new books.

Classes and Staff

Students in grades K and 1 are scheduled for library visits in 1/2 hour blocks.  Each teacher may also sign up for use of the computer lab as needed.

Students in grades 2, 3, 4 and 5 are scheduled for 1 hour blocks with lab time included.

Additional times are available in the Media Center and lab for "as needed" projects and learning.

The Media Center is staffed by library media specialist, Rebecca Cochrane and 3 part-time volunteers.
