Text Box: A little note on the importance of reading:

Studies show that a child’s vocabulary grows as they read.  Make reading a part of your child’s day—every day.

Homework every night includes 30 minutes of  reading.  Each of our classrooms have assigned books that the children are accountable for.

In addition to that, let your child see that reading is a valuable, necessary and enjoyable activity in your home.  Read with them as often as you can spare, take them to the public library and let them experience the joys of borrowing books.  Allow them to see you reading...the newspaper, a magazine, the T.V. Guide...let them see that reading is a part of our lives every day!

Talk to them about the books they are reading and help them to understand.  Even if you haven’t read the book—the children have been practicing, throughout the grades, grade-appropriate book talks. Let them lead the discussion and show you what they know!
