Text Box: Homework Policy

Each night your Fifth Grader will have a mixture of the following homework assignments:

Read for 30 minutes - every night without exception, including weekends and holidays - this assignment is taken very seriously! Please encourage your child to read for at least 30 minutes every night. Can’t help missing a night? Make it up the following night or spread the time out over the week.

Spelling - some classes will have a spelling assignment two nights a week. These assignments will be due in on Friday morning with a spelling test during the day on Friday.

Math - with few exceptions there will be a math assignment every night. Most of the assignments will be a review of the lessons of that week. Sometimes it will be a review of concepts learned in the weeks before. ALL assignments are a review of something that they have learned in school. Encourage your child to work through any math problems that give them trouble. A completed math page – even if it’s incorrect - will tell the teachers a great deal about what they are misunderstanding and help us to re-teach a particular concept, if necessary. Instill in your child the idea that it’s okay to ask questions in school!

Reading Response - at least once a week there will be a written response to their reading. Sometimes it will be about a book they are reading for pleasure. Sometimes it will be about a book they are reading with their Reading Group.
