For safety and comfort, children should not arrive
earlier than 8:20 a.m. Schools are not responsible
for outside supervision prior to 8:20 a.m. The only
exceptions are for those attending WHEE, the
breakfast program (opens at 8:10 a.m.) or with teacher
permission. The first bell will ring at 8:30 a.m., at which
time children may enter the building. Children are
considered tardy if they arrive after 8:35 a.m.
Tardy records appear on your child's report card and are
therefore part of your permanent record.
Safe Driving
Please
obey all posted signs and traffic regulations when driving
on school grounds or near our school. Remember the
parking lot is closed during arrival and dismissal
times.
After-School Plans
Please
make sure to send in a note to your child's teacher whenever
there is a change in your child's after-school plans.
Unless there is a note, children will follow their usual
after-school arrangements, i.e., ride the bus, go to WHEE,
or walk home. Please plan ahead and try not to call
the office with changes in dismissal plans since we cannot
guarantee that telephone messages will be conveyed to
students prior to dismissal.
Telephone Messages
It is the policy of Charter Oak School not to interrupt
classes to convey telephone messages to students. We
request that early dismissal or after-school plans be
finalized prior to students' arrival at school each day
since we cannot guarantee that telephone messages will be
conveyed prior to dismissal. If there are changes in
dismissal plans please send a note to your child's teacher. |

Absent or Tardy
Please call the school office before 8:30 a.m. or the voice
mail absence box
233-8506
(box 305) if your child is going to be absent or tardy. We
appreciate your consideration in making this telephone call.
School Closings and Delays
During an early closing please do not call the office.
We need to keep our phone lines open. Please make emergency
plans well ahead of time. When there is a delayed
opening on any school day, all before-school activities are
cancelled. Please prepare your children for a snow
emergency or other emergencies, which require an early
closing. Have a practice drill just in case, so that your
children know what to do and where to go if no one is at
home. We will send all children home under most
circumstances. However, should there be an instance when
children absolutely cannot be dismissed, e.g. electrical
lines down, we will keep your child safely at school.

Visitor and Volunteer Sign-In
Anyone visiting or volunteering at Charter Oak School during
school hours must sign in the front office. It is
important to know who is in the building at all times for
security and safety reasons. Also, if your child is ill or
hurt it will help us locate you if you are volunteering in
the school. You will be required to wear a volunteer or
visitor name badge. Your cooperation is appreciated and
essential.
Only the
front door will be unlocked during school hours.
