There are many tools for searching the Web.
If you are using the same search engine or directory every time, you may be missing some great resources. Try
out different tools and choose the ones that best match the type of question you
are asking. It is also a good idea to use the advanced search options.
But remember that subscription databases should be the first place you
look for information before you search the free Web.
Directories
very good if you are a new searcher or have a very general topic
built by humans and usually (but not always) carefully evaluated and annotated
organized into subject categories
can be small and specialized or quite large
never
contain full-text of the web pages to which they link
have more limited advanced searching options than search engines
Nettrekker This is a subscription service which requires a user
name and password. Ask in the Library for the log-in information.
