Events for September |
We
welcome our students into their new grades with a celebratory program out
by the flagpole in front of our school on September 2, 2008. Curriculum
Night offers a chance for parents to meet with the teachers in their
child's new classrooms, hearing what students will be learning in this
upcoming year. |

Events for October |
Nature's
Classroom awaits our fifth graders at Camp Jewel in Colebrook, CT. for a
four day study-visit.
(Field trip dates may vary.) |

Student
Council voting takes place at this time to mirror our national elections.
Our first report cards coincide with
Parent Conferences, with a opportunity for parents to meet with their
child's teacher.
The Library hosts its annual Book Fair
in late November or early December. |

This
is Duffy's Poetry Month, with students reading either selections of their
own creation, or long time favorites, each morning to the school audience
over the intercom, and publishing them in our weekly newsletter.
The Winter Concert showcases the talents
of our budding musicians in the strings, band and chorus. |

The
annual National Geographic Geography Bee tests the knowledge of our fourth
and fifth graders.

Mid-term
assessments fill our calendar in these weeks, relieved by a week long
vacation in the middle of the month. |

Read Across America
Day happens on the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Each classroom plans activities to celebrate
this theme. CMT
Assessments are given. Parent
Conference Week is also this month, giving parents an opportunity to meet
with teachers.

We begin to plan for
Kindergarten for the next school year by having Kindergarten Orientation for
parents and Kindergarten Child Study where future students meet their
teachers to be.
A week long vacation occurs
in the middle of the month.

Events for May |
Our Spring Concert and Art
Show displays the talents of our students. The students in our
Inter-Elementary Musical groups perform at the Bushnell in Hartford. Class Field Days begin this month as well. |
| Special
Events for June |
The fifth grade have their
special events which they have eagerly been awaiting all year with Class
Day and Fun Day, and a special day to
give out our new yearbooks.
The Duffy Fair is a huge
community event sponsored by our wonderful PTO.
We end our school year (the date depends
on the amount of snow days that we have to make up) with our traditional
Dance-A-Thon. |
