You are on an important mission: your class will be purchasing an amazing gift for your teacher - a trip to the Caribbean island of her choice! Your job is to do research on one of the countries in order to help your teacher choose. Using the internet and books in your library, collect facts and make a beautiful poster or brochure of the place you are studying so your teacher will be able to choose before the end of the school year. The creator of the winning poster or brochure gets to go along with your teacher!
Now go to the TASK.
![]()
Your travel brochure needs to have:
1. A map of the your country/island
At least 5 of the following:
2. Tourist attractions
3. Information about the climate/weather: try to include high and low temperatures, rainy and dry seasons, hurricane seasons.
4. Foods eaten in your country/island
5. Entertainment: what do people do for fun in your country?
6. Some facts about well-known beaches on your country/island
7. Information about festivals on your island
8. A final paragraph that sums up why your teacher should choose the island/country you have written about.
Each set of facts will need a picture to go along with it.
The pictures can be drawings of pictures you find in books or on
the internet. Somewhere on your brochure you need to have a map of your
country/island.
Now, go to PROCESS.
First, print out the Check List. This will help you organize your work.
You will need to make a Caribbean folder to hold all of your work. Put your name on the folder and label it with your name and the name of your country/island.
Click HERE to see your NOTES SHEET. Print it out and use it for writing your notes.
When you have checked off all of the boxes on your check list, you are ready to create your brochure or poster.

In using this webquest with younger students, or just to save time, I recommend copying the check list and notes page and fitting them onto 2 pages using a word processor. I am using this webquest with third graders and have found that they benefit from a hands-on lesson on using the internet: first I introduce the webquest and explain that the internet is a way for us to connect and get information from computers from all over the world. We go over using scroll bars, back and forward buttons and the frame menu on the left side of the screen. I let them know that we will be connecting to computers in Japan and will gather information on notes sheets. They will then take the notes and use them to create a poster or travel brochure.
Please send any comments and/or suggestions! Thank you.
