Registration & Residency Verification

 

Dear Parent/Guardian,

All students must register in the Registrar Office before they are admitted to or evaluated by any West Hartford Public School. All new students or their parent/guardian are required to verify residency in the town of West Hartford, in person, at the West Hartford Registrar Office. If the student has been attending West Hartford Public Schools but has moved to a new address within West Hartford the Residency Verification process must be completed again. Your address must be changed at the Registrar Office even if your school district is not affected.

In order to complete the registration and residency verification you will need the following:

A.   The student's birth certificate and social security number; if applicable a passport/visa or green card. Please note we do not accept foreign birth certificates. If the student is born in the state of Connecticut we require a full size birth certificate not a wallet size.

B.   If the parent of the child is not the legal guardian you, as the guardian, must bring with you guardianship papers issued by the State of Connecticut.

C.   If you own your home you must present a current West Hartford mortgage statement or bill or a copy of the West Hartford home property tax statement, or the title page of the current homeowners insurance policy.

D.   If you rent you must present a current rental or lease agreement.

E.   And in additional to C or D, whether you rent or own in West Hartford you must bring at least one current utility bill (electricity, gas, phone).

F.   If the student and the parent/guardian are living in a dwelling that is rented or owned and occupied by another person, that person who owns or rents the dwelling must bring documentation mention on sections C, D and E. and present a photo identification and sign a Certificate of Residency Form.

 

Verification of Residency must be completed before the student will be admitted to or observed by any West Hartford Public School. APPOINTMENT REQUIRED.

**KINDERGARTENER PARENTS PLEASE NOTE:

In order to register a child for kindergarten in the State of Connecticut the child must be 5 years old on or before January 1 of the academic school year.
